News & Notes - December 2005

Poojya Swamiji’s Health: Poojya Swamiji’s health after the surgery and the postsurgery events has been improving steadily, responding well to the modified, regulated food schedule. Swamiji now goes around the Ashram premises and has been meeting visitors. But physically he is even now weak. He has not been able to accept the various invitations to inaugurate or attend local religio-spiritual functions.

Ashram’s daily routines have been modified slightly to suit Swamiji’s altered lifestyle. Pushpa-samarpanam programme, which used to be conducted during the early hours, has not yet been re-started. Instead, devotees have been offering pranaams at his feet in the new Mandapam later in the morning hours. The night satsang has started regularly and Poojya Swamiji is teaching selected slokas from Sreemad Bhaagavatam and Yogavasistha Ramayana, expounding the profound concepts with unique clarity.

As announced earlier, the 4th Sreemad Bhaagavata Tattva Sameekshaa Satram will be held in Naimishaaranyam, Paralikad, Trichur, from 24th December 2005 to 1st January 2006. The venue is the sacred precincts of Tacchanatthukavu Devi Temple. Due to organisational reasons and also for better usage of facilities, the duration of the Satram will be for 9 days only instead of 12 days as in the previous years.

The Satram has now become an annual event in the minds and hearts of the Bhaagavata lovers in the entire region. More than four thousand devotees from different villages and cities are expected to assemble in Naimishaaranyam daily to listen to the 9-day Bhaagavata exposition.

The message of Sreemad Bhaagavatam is that Knowledge of the Supreme Truth is the sole panacea for the human mind afflicted by the world. The Satram aims at instilling the values expounded in the Text making them ‘the warp and woof of daily life’. Over 40 distinguished exponents – sannyasins and scholars – will be speaking on the great Text, emphasizing its philosophy, deeper values and principles.

Whenever such programmes that uphold societal morals and values are arranged, the age-old practice is to announce it as widely as possible so that its benediction reaches out to the larger public. Only then will be generated lasting public awareness and timely compulsion for gaining right knowledge of our Dharma and heritage. With this in mind, Sri Krishna Yaatra from Guruvayur, Dharma Dhvaja Yaatra from Tiruvilvamalai, Sreemad Bhaagavata Grantha Yaatra from Narayanashrama Tapovanam, Venginissery and Satram Pracharana Yaatra from Paralikad will be conducted a few days before the Satram.

Over 1000 devotees will participate in the Vishnusahasranaama Saamoohika Yajña on 1st January 2006. Every devotee will have the opportunity to worship the Lord with flowers and witness oblations.

11th Annual Geeta Tattva Sameeksha in Thrissur will be held between 22nd and 29th January 2006 at the Vadakkunathan Temple Sreemoolasthaanam. Poojya Swamiji will speak (in Malayalam) on the 11th chapter of Bhagavadgeeta.

This annual event has assumed great significance to the citizens of the entire district. They look forward to it fondly, cherishing Poojya Swamiji’s unique style of inspiring and enlightening them with the deep and profound messages of Bhagavadgeeta.

Geeta Tattva Sameeksha Committee – of which Sri UK Nair is the convenor – manned by prominent citizens in the field of religious culture, has been arranging the yearly programme efficiently and effectively, with all the discipline and fervour such a Tattva Sameekshaa event calls for.

To the Trichur listeners, among whom are quite a number of veterans and scholars, Krishna’s Kurukshetra Dialogue evidently discloses an unheard of depth, loftiness, inspiration and enlightenment. Swamiji’s stress on the interactional saadhana, to which Krishna gives supreme importance, goes very deep into the hearts and minds of many listeners.

That it is an open-air programme gives it an indigenous cultural look, a factor that upholds the cultural depth and affinity of our people.

Nutan Swamiji left for Delhi on Nov 11. He has been conducting classes on Kathopanishad in CIRD. Satsang sessions are being held during mornings as well afternoons. He is expected to return to the Ashram on Dec 2.
