On Sunday, 11th June, Poojya Swamiji addressed
the children of the Sunday Cultural Heritage Class in the Ashram during
a function to distribute prizes and certificates to those who had done
well in the examinations and some competitions held in the Sunday classes.
Poojya Swamiji reminded the
children that it is not maatsarya – the unhealthy spirit of
competition to outclass others – that should be behind their aim for doing
well in any field, be it sports or studies. They should instead consider any
competition as an opportunity to express and know their own talents and also
to appreciate the qualities of others. They should view the awards as
recognition of their merits rather than as prizes that connote an achievement
in competition.
Poojya Swamiji expressed
happiness with the performance of the children in the various categories such
as øloka chanting, story narration, good conduct, regularity in attendance,
etc.
Certificates signed personally by
Poojya Swamiji were given to the children who included students form the first
standard to the higher secondary classes. Prizes included storybooks, annual
subscription to children’s monthly magazine, notebooks, umbrellas,
instrument boxes and the like. All the students were given a set of school
uniform stitched to their sizes.
On 10th June Poojya Swamiji was invited to
the Kartyayani Temple, Veloor, in Trichur District,
to grace the reinstallation of two Deities. Addressing the
devotees assembled there, Swamiji pointed out that Temples
and Ashrams constitute the backbone of our country’s
age-old civilization and culture.
Poojya Swamiji exhorted the
people to always uphold the sanctity and purpose of these spiritual Centres
and make them vibrant to ensure the long term well being of the society.
Wholehearted support towards the upkeep of Temples and the pursuits of the
spiritual centres is invaluable. Such concern and sharing will enable the
families to bequeath inner strength and values to the young minds, making them
worthy citizens.
Besides the usual routine
worship, Temple Managements must take up the esteemed task of conducting
enlightening programmes about the meaning, worth and values of human life as
well as the eternal benefits of spiritual wisdom.
