Anna-vastra Daana Satra: The yearly Anna-vastra Daana Satra has
gained a fond place in the hearts of the people as is apparent from the
numerous enquiries that are made by the participants and others about the
dates and times of distribution much before the annual event. Many from other
parts of India and abroad, have expressed their feelingful affinity for the
holy Daana mission. The Daana-Satra-culture is steadily growing, gaining a
significant position in the society. Of course, that has always been Poojya
Swamiji’s main objective in organizing the yearly event.
The benedictory effects of Daana are
to the society in general and to the individual in particular. “It is the
act of daana that purifies and sustains the wealth of an individual or his
family. The concept of daana therefore remains a source of blessings for the
descendants.” – Poojya Swamiji said during the distribution.
This year the Satra
organizers had procured 13,000 dhotis, seven thousand sarees and 60 tons of
rice required for the distribution. Led by prominent Sannyasins, the
distributions were conducted from various centres amidst Naamasankirtana,
chanting of shlokas. The function is preceded with an Aarati
to the recipients, wherein they are welcomed in a traditional manner with a
lighted camphor flame held in front of them. Apart from Narayanashrama
Tapovanam (3,000 recipients), Vyasa Tapovanam and Sanatana Dharma Ashram
(3,500 and 500 recipients each), the distributions have been made from nearly
50 other village centres, benefiting about 20,000 families in all.
In addition, under the Monthly Daana Satra scheme, about 300 indigent
individuals are given 15 kg rice and some money every month. Assistance for
education, medical treatment, house-building and repair, etc. is also given to
the needy from time to time on a regular basis.
