Section 6.
Matrupooja - children worship their mothers
The
Bhagavata
presentations followed largely the narrational
sequence of the Text.
It progressed with a hitherto unknown lustre
and relish. And
arrived the day for the much talked about Matrupooja.
Over
1000 mothers, invited for the event, had arrived
well in time. They sat on chairs in two batches, the
children standing close in front, waiting anxiously
to worship the Mothers with the Matru-panchakam
Shankaracharya sang 1200 odd years back in
Kalaty, near Ankamaly, Ernakulam District, Kerala.
The
Swamiji Maharaj pair led the session from the dais,
the young ones doing the five archanas
as they were directed.
In the end they offered the plate, on which a
saree, rice, sweets and a little cash
(arranged by the Satram
organizers) were placed, taking a pratijna
(vow) that they would cherish strongly the
child-mother bond in their hearts ever.
They sought blessings for this from the
mother, calling “mother, mother” fondly many
times openly.
The
sight was exceedingly sublime, transporting the
onlookers to a hitherto unknown horizon. It wetted
their eyes while glittering their hearts. Some aged 50 and above also stood in the children’s row –
a sight revealing in many ways!
“Parent-sibling
bond is growing weak, nay is getting corroded” is
the cry we hear everywhere. Joint families are
almost extinct. The picture is gloomy and psychology
of the young is hit adversely.
In such a scenario, Hind
Navotthana Pratishthan and Narayanashrama
Tapovanam ushered in a new cultural perception
and induced a new enlightened orientation.
