Criminal conspiracy to restart Thookkam after 16 years

16 long years have passed since the glorious Poomotal substitution came into practice. Why should the Temple Advisory Committee in utter faithlessness, violating the  constitutional,  social, moral, astrological and devotional norms, try to hoist the once for all abandoned heinous Thookkam flag again? 

They clandestinely hired a Thookkam professional and sinfully persuaded him to take the Thookkam vow on 14^th March 2004 for holding the ritual on 23^rd April, the 10^th day of Kerala’s and Tamilnadu’s New Year.

Astrological decision once taken not to be re-opened

A decision taken at the Astrological session and ratified by Public meeting should not be re-opened.  No further astrological verdict to be sought in the matter again.  Any violation in this traditional decorum will only sabotage  astrological sublimity and devotional propriety.

Another sacrilegious step is the utter disregard of the astrological finding that the Deity embodies immaculate Saattvik Sarasvatee Bhaava, as opposed to the ferocious Rajasik Bhadrakaalee bhaava. In that light vidyaarambha (literacy-initiation of children) and choroonu  (first rice-feeding to the child) were the ceremonial additions  harmonious with the Deity. Devaguruti and Thookkam like rituals are fully repugnant.  Heeding the verdict, they constructed a Mandapam for the prescribed rituals, which are in vogue ever since. There is nothing more violational than installing Thookkam and cutting hen’s legs making them bleed, as planned now.  The step will undermine the very foundation of Tantra-saastras and the Deity. 

Thookkam Banned on April 22, 2004

Thookkam has been banned by the Ernakulam district collector. Citing law and order problem, district collector Gnaneshkumar, who is also the district magistrate, issued the prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code  directing the temple authorities not to conduct the ritual.
